Pink in the Rink2010-2011 Event Recap:The Oakville Blades held their 3rd Annual "Pink in the Rink" fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society in January of 2011 as they welcomed the Hamilton Red Wings to the SMSC. The night featured a new twist to the annual event with the pink sweaters worn by the Blades being auctioned off online prior to the event to fans. The auction helped raise over $8,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society (breast cancer awareness). On the ice the Blades defeated the Red Wings by a score of 4-1 to run an impressive late-season winning streak to 7 games. Daniel Savelli (Burlington, ON) made 26 saves on 27 shots for the win while Mark Bennett (Oakville, ON), Josh Ranalli (Stoney Creek, ON), Brandon Denham (Milton, ON) and Nick Rivait (Kingsville, ON) provided the offence. The organization would like to than all of the supporters for their hard work and donations for the event and look forward to seeing you back in 2011-2012 for the 4th installment of the fundraiser. 2009-2010 Event Recap:The Blades held their 2nd Annual 'Pink in the Rink' fundraiser on November 13th 2009 at the Joshua's Creek Arenas in Oakville. Together with the Minor Oaks Hockey Association, Oakville Ice Junior Women's Team, and the Georgetown Raiders, the Oakville Blades Hockey Club was able to make a significant donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. A big thank you goes out to the fans, volunteers and both teams for their genorosity and support of the event. The Blades wore pink sweaters for the pregame warmup and the sweaters were auctioned off during the game, along with additional prizes. On the ice, the Blades and Raiders combined for one of the most exciting Jr. A games of the season, with the contest going the distance and the Raiders coming out on top of a 3-2 decision after 60 minutes of regulation, 5 minutes of overtime and a shootout. Current Blade Steven Guzzo (Oakville, ON) notched both goals for Oakville in regulation time, while former Blade Sean Teakle (Oakville, ON) banged home both Raider goals before Scott Wilson (Oakville, ON) provided the shootout heroics. Both teams will participate in another fundraising event when the Blades travel to Georgetown in December. A photo gallery from the event can be viewed below. 2008-2009 Event Recap:On Saturday October 18th 2009 the Oakville Blades hosted the Burlington Cougars in an Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) regular season game at the Joshua's Creek Arenas for 'Pink in the Rink,' a fundraiser to support breast cancer awareness. The Blades won the game 5-2, outshooting their rivals 41-21 in the process. For the event, the Blades wore custom-made pink jerseys for the pregame warmup and the jerseys were auctioned off during and after the game with all proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.
