One of the main goals of the Oakville Blades Hockey Club is to help our athletes advance to higher levels of the game while obtaining their education. This page will house information regarding the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I and Division III opportunities, Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) opportunities and Major Junior (OHL, QMJHL and WHL) opportunities.
For a list of Blades having played, or currently playing, in the NCAA, CIS or CHL, please click on the "Alumni" tab at the top of the page.
The NCAA offers competition at both the Division I and Division III levels each year stretching from coast-to-coast in the United States of America. The Oakville Blades and the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) are heavily scouted by most, if not all, of the top Division I and Division III programs on a consistent basis.
For current Blades, the Adobe .pdf file below outlines the regulations, application information and key dates for applying to an NCAA school for the 2011-2012 year. The 2012-2013 version of the guide will be available in the fall of 2011 and will be posted on the site when available.
The CIS offers competition in three (3) leagues - the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) league, Atlantic University Sport (AUS) and Canada West (CW). The Blades consistently move players on - many with Major Junior experience - to play university hockey in Canada.
For current Blades, the Adobe .pdf file below outlines the regulations, application information and key dates for applying to a CIS school for the 2011-2012 year. If the guide is updated by the CIS for the 2012-2013 year, it will be posted on the site during the upcoming season.
The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) offers competition in three (3) leagues - the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and Western Hockey League (WHL). The Oakville Blades have moved many players to the Major Junior level, most often into the OHL, and have welcomed a number of players to their roster with Major Junior experience looking to redevelop their game in order to progress to higher levels of the sport.
More information regarding the educational opportunities and expectations of playing Major Junior hockey in the OHL can be obtained from their "Best of Both Worlds" website located at:
