Oakville, Ontario – The Oakville Blades are pleased to announce that forward Christian Rajic has committed to the University of Alabama Huntsville for 2017-2018, a Division I NCAA hockey school in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
An Oakville native, Rajic played with the Mississauga Rebels in both his minor midget and major midget seasons before earning a spot with the Blades. A draft pick by the Saginaw Spirit back in 2013, Rajic finished his final year of midget with 41 points in 31 games back in 2013-2014 to go along with an assist in a four game stint with the Blades that year.
Rajic's play earned him a full-time spot with Oakville for the 2014-2015 OJHL season, a campaign that saw him put up an impressive 33 points in 49 games. Consistently one of the better rookies in the South Division, Rajic ramped up his play this season with 61 points in 42 regular season games with the Blades, good to tie fellow Blade Tyler Rollo for 12th in league scoring.
With his commitment, Rajic becomes the seventh Blade to commit to a Division I school, the fourth of the 2015-2016 season. Prior to Rajic's commitment, Drew Worrad (Clarkson), Ian Blacker (western Michigan), Patrick Kudla (Arizona State), Jackson Bales Josh Kosack (Union) and Bryce Misley (Vermont) had committed to the NCAA, with Tyler Rollo also making his mark by signing with the OHL's Peterbourgh Petes. Oakville currently leads the entire OJHL and OHA for Division I commitments, furthering the Blades dedication to helping players excel in both hockey in education.
You can watch Rajic and the rest of the Blades in action in their first round playoff series against the St. Michael's Buzzers this Friday, when the two teams open up the post-season with a 7:30 pm puck drop at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. The full opening playoff schedule will be released shortly, so stay tuned to OakvilleBlades.ca for updates!
